Long gone are the days when the church dominated western art practice. Nowadays artists find it easier and more appealing to engage with secular issues and popular iconography than face the complex questions that religion throws up.
There are of course exceptions and the artists in EX 15 : 20 are a few. In taking a self-reflective and at times humorous look at the Judeo-Christian legacy that permeates society, the works chosen raise some important questions about western religion and what it means today.
Although a first exhibition for the majority of the artists, the work is unapologetically bold, challenging the authority of religious iconography and the Christian model.
